POLICE have issued safety advice in a bid to prevent crimes this summer.

Dorset Police says burglaries tend to increase in the summer months and the force is hoping the public will play an ‘active part’ in helping reduce intrusive crimes.

Safety measures members of the public should adopt are keeping windows and doors closed when you leave the house.

Residents should consider additional security when going away on holiday such as informing family or neighbours to check on the property and removing giveaway signs of the house being empty holiday such as piles of letters. Householders should ensure any alarms or CCTV installed works correctly and place high-value items out of view.

Dorset Police are also advising caravan and motor home owners to conceal electrical leads when charging units as it indicates to burglars an imminent holiday.
