A BOMB disposal team was called to Weymouth this evening after a shell was dug up in a garden.
Police were called to Holly Road, off Abbotsbury Road, at around 6.30pm.
A Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal Unit was dispatched from Tidworth, Wiltshire, following the discovery.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: “The 13lb shell was dug up in a garden.
“It was inert and wasn’t active.
“It was collected by the team for assessment and has been taken back to Tidworth for disposal.”
The spokesman said the type of shell was not yet known.
