THE countdown to Weymouth Carnival is on – and a familiar face is back on the committee heading up the sponsorship drive.

Ryan Hope had to step back from his many community roles while he concentrated on fighting a court case.

After being cleared of all charges earlier this month, the 22-year-old borough councillor told how he was looking forward to getting back involved in community work – including Weymouth Carnival – which he cares passionately about.

He has been given the task of attracting sponsorship and is appealing for organisations to lend support by purchasing a ‘golden ticket’.

In the past, businesses have been able to purchase different sponsorship packages for various sums for things like the programme and the Red Arrows, left.

But with the golden ticket initiative these packages will be raffled off in a draw. Tickets can be purchased for £100 or three for £200.

Tickets can be bought up until the day of the draw, which will be at Aura bar at 7pm on June 21.

Ryan said: “The carnival committee has welcomed me back with open arms and I’m delighted to be involved again.

“The support I’ve had from the community has been brilliant and it’s great to be getting back into it.”

He added: “I’ve taken on the role of sponsorship and fundraising co-ordinator and I’m pushing the golden tickets which are a fantastic opportunity for businesses, and in fact anyone who wants to buy one, to support the carnival.

“It costs in the region of £60,000 to run the carnival so it’s important we get the support.

“The great thing about the golden ticket is that you could be in with a chance of becoming a headline sponsor, and are guaranteed at least £250 worth of sponsorship for just £100.”

Weymouth Carnival is on Wednesday, August 20.

The world-famous Red Arrows have been booked but as with all the entertainment, organisers need funding.

Carnival chairman Elysia Munday said: “The committee is delighted to welcome Ryan back to the team.

“Ryan is an incredibly hardworking and experienced key member who brings dedication and passion for the community in large quantities.

“We’ve already put our heads together to brainstorm some fantastic new ideas.”
