A CLIMBER was rescued after falling from a cliff near Swanage.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend Swanage RNLI lifeboat crew and Portland coastguard helicopter were called to the cliffs near Anvil Point, Swanage, where a climber had fallen.
Watch the rescue below:
Swanage’s inshore lifeboat was first on scene and immediately deployed crew members James Chadwick and Becky Mack.
The casualty sustained a chest injury during the fall but was conscious and able to chat to the crew. Volunteer lifeboat crew member Becky Mack said: "The casualty was in a tricky location on a stretch of coast known as Ragged Rocks.
“There was a rolling swell that meant we had to time our approach in the lifeboat with the waves."
Portland helicopter arrived at the incident and lowered a winchman down to assist the casualty.
The lifeboat crew and winchman worked together to get the casualty onto a stretcher and he was winched onto the helicopter and transferred to hospital.
Volunteer crew member James Chadwick, who was celebrating his birthday on the day of the incident, said: "We were fortunate that the coastguard helicopter was available to effect a swift evacuation from the scene.
“It is never easy operating on the cliffs but with the help of my fellow crew, the coastguard winchman and the climber's friends we were able to get the casualty safely airlifted."
