AN ELDERLY man struck by a council van in Weymouth is fighting for his life in hospital.

The 84-year-old Weymouth man suffered serious head injuries in the collision in Newstead Road on Tuesday.

His condition in Dorset County Hospital yesterday was described as ‘critical’. It is understood the man was crossing the road near to the law courts when he was hit by a Dorset Waste Partnership van carrying wheelie bins about 12.45pm.

Witnesses and anyone with information are asked to contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 27:182.
