A CHARITY is on the hunt for volunteers to help boost its two shops in Dorchester.

Derek Turnbull and Owain Lloyd have recently taken over the county town’s two Oxfam stores and are keen to get people involved with the running of the shops.

They need more volunteers from the community to help with a range of tasks from interacting with the public on the shop floor to processing donations and researching rare books.

Derek and Owain promise volunteers will find the experience rewarding and are urging people to get in touch, Derek, who runs the bookshops, needs people to help with several shifts throughout the week, particularly on the sales floor on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

He also needs volunteers to help sort and price books and music as well as restocking the shelves.

Derek said: “Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and feel part of a team.

“And this team is a great one to be part of.”

In the standard shop Owain is after volunteers to fill a variety of roles. As well as shop floor roles, a clothes sorter and pricer is wanted for one shift a week, as is a homewares and bric-a-brac volunteer.

There are also a number of exciting roles to fill in the online shop team.

The positions involve tasks such as researching antique or unusual books online, photographing stock or being part of the fashion team.

Owain said: “Volunteering for Oxfam is rewarding, interesting, and is a great step, if you’re looking to build your CV or learn new skills.

“It’s a fantastic route back into employment, and along the way, you’re really helping the people who need it the most.”
