AUDITIONS are being held for a new amateur ballet company in Dorchester this weekend.

Spirit of Light Ballet is holding a membership and audition day on Saturday for all dancers who are interested in joining.

The not-for-profit community interest company welcomes dancers of any training system, standard or background.

The group will rehearse in Dorchester on Saturdays and will perform at various charity events throughout the region as well as taking part in a small tour of Dorset and the South West before heading to London.

Dancers will be trained and coached by artistic director Caron Yardley, who will also offer additional open ballet and partnering classes on Fridays for anyone to attend.

There are no exams as the company is entirely performance-based.

Spirit of Light is also looking for committee members and has a wide variety of roles for people who are enthusiastic about the arts and want to use their talents.

Anyone interested can get in touch through the Volunteer Centre Dorset. The company is keen to hear from keen amateur or ex-professional photographers and filmmakers as well.

The auditions on Saturday are being held at the Dorchester Wellness Centre with 14 to 17-year-olds at 9.30am, 18 to 30-year-olds at 10.30am and over 30s at 11.30am.

Private auditions can be booked for the afternoon in advance.
