DORSET Fire and Rescue Service will pay tribute to its volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week.
The week, from June 1 until June 7, also marks the five year anniversary of the service’s volunteering scheme, which now boasts almost 100 active volunteers across the county.
Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter will host a barbecue for the service's helpers after their team meeting to thank them for their dedication.
Mr Gunter said: “I am delighted to attend the volunteers meeting and celebrate their achievements with them.
“Since launching the scheme five years ago volunteers have attended hundreds of events, meetings and initiatives in their local communities. All with the aim of helping these communities stay safer.”
He added: “They are an amazing asset, allowing us to enhance the service we offer to our most vulnerable communities.”
During the week, the volunteers will also be out with the service assisting with two station drill activities and a MacMillian Cream Tea event.
This is all with the aim of increasing their numbers, raising the profile of their work and offer home safety advice to members of the community.
Nicky Jenkins, Dorset Fire and Rescue Volunteer Co-Coordinator, said: “Currently we have a team of 96 volunteers who cover the whole of Dorset, from Lyme Regis to Christchurch, Portland to Gillingham.
“We are always looking for new recruits to help with the challenging and rewarding opportunities on offer.
"Our volunteers have the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the service, including helping with our youth initiatives, assisting at corporate events and volunteering alongside firefighters at their local station.
“All our volunteers and are provided with a uniform and full training.”
