WEYMOUTH community group ArtWey set the scene when the Weymouth and Portland’s Mayor and Mayoress opened its recent exhibition for Dorset Arts Week.

Mayor Ray Banham and Mayoress Pamela Nixon attended the open event last Saturday, pictured right, in ArtWey’s temporary studios based in Weymouth’s Old Town Hall, which dates back to the 1700s.

The latest exhibition is open until June 8, and features a co-operative of 10 artists and craftspeople showcasing their work.

Pieces on display include landscapes, graphic prints, floral studies, abstracts, sculptures and wall hangings.

ArtWey is an organisation which represents the area’s visual artists, hosting events and exhibitions.

All artists exhibiting at Weymouth Old Town Hall will be on site at various times during the two-week exhibition, and will be talking to visitors about their inspiration and techniques.

Their artwork will be for sale and a percentage of funds will be donated to the Guardians of the Old Town Hall, who restored the historic venue the exhibition is situated in.
