GET your best glad rags on and enjoy a night out with Spenstock 6.

The annual event, in memory of Weymouth drummer Spencer Bates, will this year have a ‘Day at the Races’ theme.

Everyone is invited to dress to impress and head down to the Weymouth Pavilion Ocean Rooms for a fun night out on Friday August 1. The event will be raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) in West Dorset.

Former Balance of Power drummer, Spencer Bates, battled the condition and passed away in August, 2011, aged 49. So far the six events, together with other fundraisers, have raised more than £40,000 for the MNDA.

Hundreds of people attended last year’s event and Spencer’s family, who organise the events, are hoping this year will be just as successful.

Spencer’s mum Mary Bates said: “It’s going to be a race night. The theme will be Ladies Day at Ascot so get your glad rags on.

“Hopefully everyone will be putting on their posh frocks, hats and suits.”

The evening at the Ocean Room will feature the races, a raffle and tombola and a cabaret afterwards featuring Nick Barron. This year will also see a second event on the night before Spenstock.

On Thursday July 31 there will be an evening of clairvoyance with Bernie Scott at Weymouth Community Fire Station on Radipole Lane with tickets at £10.

Tickets to Spenstock are £6 each or two for £10 and for over 18s only for the Night at the Races.

Mrs Bates encouraged everyone to come along and join them for a fun evening.

She said: “Spenstock is continuing with a different format this year. We thought we would try something different.”

She added: “Come along, put your glad rags on and have a great evening.”

Tickets can be bought by calling Mary Bates on 07979 494649 or Weymouth Pavilion.
