A WEYMOUTH restaurant will feature in a new TV series.

Janet Street-Porter and Brian Turner from BBC’s A Taste of Britain visited Weymouth on Saturday to film at The Dining Room on St Mary Street.

They spent four hours filming with chef Taher Jibit, from 8am to 12noon, and he showed them how to make a sea bream ceviche (corr) with Dorset wasabi and sea bream crackling.

The focus of the show is on showcasing different dishes using local ingredients from around the UK.

Originally from South America, a ceviche uses lime or citrus juices and salt to sear and ‘cook’ the flesh of the fish.

Mr Jibet said the BBC approached them about coming to do some filming. He said it was a great showcase for what they were doing at the restaurant and for Dorset’s local produce.

He said he thought he might be a little nervous with the cameras on him but he wasn’t as the crew were so relaxed and there was no pressure.

Mr Jibet said: “Brian Turner is a really nice guy and puts you quite at ease. It’s easy to forget the cameras are there. It’s like chatting to a friend.”

Janet Street-Porter was ‘lovely’ and ‘really funny,’ he added.

“It was a really good experience,” he said.

The show will be on screens later this year.
