DOZENS of classic cars rallied to Weymouth to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

As the sunshine blazed down on the town, 84 vintage and classic cars, ranging from the 1920s to the mid-80s filed into the car park at Weymouth Pavilion.

They had started the Hardy County Classic Tour charity rally earlier in the day at the Hampton Farm business park in Higher Bockhampton. They then stopped for lunch in Wimborne before heading back to Weymouth.

Now in its 15th year, the rally raises money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and this year raised more than £600. They are now approaching £15,000 for the total they have made across the years for good causes.

This year organisers said they had received the largest variety of vehicles, from 80s roadsters to the classic cars of the 50s and even a taxi from 1935 owned by Chairman Carle Grahame.

He said: “It’s the biggest crowd we have ever had. We are delighted, it’s all for Joseph Weld which we have supported on this event ever since we started. This year is the 15th one.”

He added: “We have had a lovely day. We are so pleased.”

Vice chairman Nick Aplin said: “They had a great run. They started in Dorchester from the business park and they made a circular route to Wimborne.”

He added: “It’s probably one of the best choices of cars we have ever had.

“There’s quite a few people here today that haven’t done it before.”

The organisers would like to thank everyone who went on the rally and everyone who showed their support and turned out to see them off or welcome them in. They would also like to give a big thank you to their sponsors Weatherbury Roofing in Dorchester and Hampton Farm business park for their support.

The date for the next rally has been set, it will be June 7, 2015.
