OFFICERS in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses after a fail-to-stop collision which involved a heavily pregnant woman.

The incident happened at around 12.40pm on Saturday on the A354 near Crawthorne, between Milborne St Andrew and Puddletown.

A grey sports car-type vehicle overtook a red Peugeot 306 on a bend and drove into the path of an oncoming car.

The red Peugeot had to take evasive action to avoid a collision and the driver lost control of the vehicle going through a hedge coming to rest in a field.

The grey sports car did not stop at the scene.

A heavily pregnant woman, who was the front seat passenger of the Peugeot, was treated at the scene by the ambulance service.

Police Constable James Prowse, of Dorchester police, said: “The couple in the Peugeot were extremely lucky to walk away from this incident and have been left deeply shocked.

“I am keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the collision.

“I am appealing for any witnesses and the driver of the vehicle that may have been faced with this grey sports car on their side of the road to come forward.

“I also urge the driver of the grey sports car, who would have been aware of the fate of the Peugeot, to come forward. We do have witnesses and lines of enquiry so I am confident the vehicle and driver will be traced.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 7:225. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
