A DIVER was airlifted to Dorset from the English Channel after suffering a case of the bends.
The 57-year-old man was rescued from the sea between the Isle of Wight and Cherbourg after showing symptoms of decompression sickness.
He was airlifted by the Solent coastguard helicopter to the recompression chamber at Poole, where he is currently being treated.
Portland coastguard said the man had dived to a depth of 65m (210ft).
A spokesman for Portland Coastguard said the issue was at first dealt with by the French authorities.
The dive boat had come from Brighton and had been training in the Channel.
