SIX new buses are now operating on popular Weymouth bus routes.
As part of a £2.4million investment to add 21 vehicles to its fleet, First Wessex has welcomed six new vehicles to the Service 4 and Service 8 routes.
These run between Weymouth town centre and Preston and Weymouth and Chickerell.
The new vehicles, all of them Optare Solo buses, can seat up to 35 customers and all come equipped with leather seats and free wi-fi.
This summer there will be a re-introduction of evening services and half-hourly services on Sundays.
First Wessex’s investment programme for Dorset also includes nine new Wright Streetlite Max micro-hybrids, which are one of the world’s most fuel-efficient buses, four of which started running in April on Service 1 between Weymouth and Portland.
Six other new Streetlites started operating at the end of last year on Service 2 between Weymouth and Littlemoor. The investment is part of the £70 million order for 425 buses that FirstGroup, First Wessex’s parent company, has placed for delivery in 2014/15.
