AN APPEAL was made today for people to support this year’s Weymouth Carnival which is now just 10 weeks away.

Organisers are planning a fantastic show with air displays, beach activities, live music, food village, and of course the grand procession.

But it can only work with support from the community, which is where YOU come in.

Residents and businesses can help by getting behind the sponsorship drive, coming up with a colourful procession entry, or by donating a few hours volunteering at the event.

It will make a big difference to the carnival committee who give their free time to ensure the big day runs smoothly and that there is enough in the bank to pay for it all, plus have some over to hand out to good causes.

Everything needs paying for – including the world-famous Red Arrows which are set to make a roaring return but only through the generosity of local businesses and organisations.

Carnival committee chairman Elysia Munday said: “The work of the carnival committee is in full swing with just 10 weeks to go until the big day.

“A more traditional feel is being implemented for the Esplanade where we'll see some good old fashioned funfair games, charity stalls and rides. The beach will play stage to an action packed fun zone, filled with live music, sports, competitions, circus skills and more; guaranteed fun for all the family.

“Our international food village will be back and bigger than ever offering a colourful array of sweets, treats and delicious hot meals to keep you fuelled during the day’s events.”

She added: “Our procession manager Lee Armstrong has already started forming what promises to be an exciting grand procession.

“Weymouth procession promises to be one of the biggest and best Weymouth has seen. We already have been getting lots of float applications in but keep them coming. We want you!”

Paul Skelton is this year’s carnival personnel coordinator and is appealing for people to give their time to help with fundraising or to take on jobs on the day such as escorting the parade, running beach activities, manning stalls or answering questions from the public.

WEYMOUTH Carnival is on Wednesday, August 20.
