A DORCHESTER watercress company is putting the fun into their upcoming run for charity, which runs directly through their competitor’s watercress fields.

Tom Amery, James Harper and Jason Bushnell from The Watercress Company will be running 10 kilometres to raise £2000 for Julia’s House, a charity which cares for children with serious and life-limiting conditions.

The team will be taking part in the Alresford 10k in Hampshire, which runs directly through some of their rivals’ watercress fields.

The team are hoping to raise £2000 towards the £3.9million Julia’s House needs this year to continue caring for 100 families, and children, they support.

But they need help from West Dorset residents to reach their target for the charity.

Tom said: “We’ve had a role with Julia’s House for a number of years. Myself and my wife were recently invited down to a house for a tour and that changes your perception totally. I’m amazed by the dedication and professional outlook of the staff, so we decided we wanted to up our game and change how we raised money.”

This latest challenge is not the only feat Tom and others will be attempting.

In addition to the upcoming 10k run, the company run various fundraising events throughout the year alongside an internal fund-matching scheme.

Even Tom’s nine-year-old son will be abseiling down cliffs in Portland this summer to raise cash for Julia’s House.

Tom explained the run, which takes place on Sunday, has a serious aim but is light-hearted too.

The business has been giving out free watercress to local runners and will also be using the opportunity to do a bit of market research on their competitors.

He said: “In the industry we’re quite competitive, so it’ll be good.”
