A MOTORCYCLIST is in a ‘critical condition’ after being involved in a two-vehicle collision near to the Roundhouse Roundabout on the A31.

The incident happened shortly after 8.30am this morning, when a man on a red Suzuki motorbike registered to an address in Hampshire collided with a black Ford Fiesta, driven by a man in his 40s from Somerset.

The motorcyclist then hit a metal road sign, sustaining serious leg, stomach and shoulder injuries. The road was closed before he was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. He is now said to be in a critical condition.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police were called to a two-vehicle collision that occurred on the A31 approximately 100m to the east of the Roundhouse Roundabout.

“The two vehicles involved were a red Suzuki motorcycle bike ridden by a male in his 40s from Hampshire and a black Ford Fiesta driven by a male in his 40s from Somerset.

“As a result of the collision the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was conveyed from the location by air ambulance to Southampton Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

“Road closures were put in place to allow the causes of the collision to be investigated and for examination of the scene by accident investigation officers.”
