WEST Dorset MP Oliver Letwin will give an address at Tolpuddle Village Hall tonight about the proposed plans for the controversial West Dorset Wind Farm.

Renewable energy company West Coast Energy submitted a revised planning application for the proposed site, near Tolpuddle, to West Dorset District Council at the start of this month.

As part of the revised application, the company reduced the amount of wind turbines from nine to five and the overall height of each turbine from 126.5 metres to 115 metres.

Now, Oliver Letwin will give a talk at the Tolpuddle Village Hall at 7pm tonight about the plans.

The proposed wind site has angered local residents, who set up the Tolpuddle Against Industrial Turbines (TAINT) when the original plans were submitted in October 2013.

Speaking after the revised plan was submitted, Richard Slocock, chairman of TAINT, said: “Our opinion hasn’t changed. They have removed the turbines from the western and eastern edges of the plans but the five central ones remain which will affect both Tolpuddle and Millborne St Andrew.

“The turbines are huge, absolutely enormous. They are not like the ones in Bere Regis, these ones are industrial sized ones that will ruin the rural landscape.”

West Coast Energy has said the local community would be guaranteed a payment of £5,000 for each megawatt of electricity generated, or 10 per cent of the profits generated from the farm, if the wind farm gets the go-ahead.

Steve Salt, planning and public affairs director at West Coast Energy, said: “We are pleased to announce that we have submitted our revised planning application for West Dorset Wind Farm to West Dorset District Council.

“We look forward to a continued engagement with the community as the application progresses through the planning system.”
