WEYMOUTH beach front could get a refurbished ‘new-look.’ Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s management committee agreed at their recent meeting to put the beach office building on the market for a 25-year tender.

The tender will have the conditions that it should be redesigned and refurbished and a report to councillors recommended that the existing toilet facilities were retained or replicated in the redesigned building.

The report also recommended that officers investigate the suitability of use of a small store in Victoria Street for use as off-beach storage and agree appropriate lease terms and that officers commission a design brief to inform the marketing and design process.

Director of Environment David Evans said that the tender process could cost £10,000 of staff time with no indication that the borough council would be better off from the exercise as they were already getting a good revenue stream from it.

But councillors went with the recommendations of the report to market the property.

Christine James said that if someone was coming along and said they wanted to do something to it that the borough council should be saying ‘great.’
