ENTHUSIASTIC teams are needed for a charity games challenge this weekend.

Diverse Abilities Plus has two team places left for their ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition on Sunday, June 22 from 2pm to 4.30pm at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth.

The event, supported by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, replicates games from the BBC television show of the same name that aired from the 1960s to the 1980s, and teams will go head-to-head in a bid to be crowned victorious.

One team taking part is ‘A Class of Their Own’, a group of 12 trainee teachers and staff from Weymouth’s Wyvern Academy who are supporting Diverse Abilities Plus to thank them for helping pupils at the academy.

Diverse Abilities supports people with physical and learning disabilities and their families and has been running for the 57 years.

Team member Carrie Gibbs said: “Most of us work at Wyvern Academy and it raises money for a brilliant charity so we really want to give something back.

“We’re definitely looking forward to it.”

Sharon Wells, events fundraiser at the charity, said: “With only two more team places to fill why not get some friends, family or work colleagues together and join the fun in this action-packed adventure race?

“Participants will be actively supporting the work of the local charity, and will have a lot of fun in doing so.”

Teams of eight to 12 people are encouraged to participate in the event.

Participants must be aged 16 years or older and all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The team entry fee for the event is £120, and a minimum of £600 sponsorship per team is also required.
