A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a collision on the A31 in the early hours of this morning.

The 31-year-old local man was found lying on the road near Corfe Mullen by a member of the public shortly before 12.30am today.

Although police and ambulances raced to the scene, he tragically couldn't be saved.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: “At 12.30am on Sunday, June 22, a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision took place on the A31 at Corfe Mullen.

“The rider of a motorcycle, a 31-year-old local male, was travelling westbound when he lost control of his grey Yamaha bike.

“He fell from the machine, sustaining serious injuries.

“He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The next of kin have been informed.”

PC 373 Savage of Poole Traffic Department is appealing for any witnesses to contract Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 22:12.

The A31 was closed overnight following the crash, both ways between the A350 Poole Road Roundhouse Roundabout and the B3078 Lake Gates Roundabout.

The road was closed for approximately eight hours.
