DORSET Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to make them aware of any controlled fires taking place to avoid unnecessary call outs.
A fire crew had to visit Chesil Beach on Saturday night after reports of a fire near the sea wall at Chiswell.
A spokesman for the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said that on arrival firefighters established it was a controlled burn.
She urged people to always inform the fire service of any fires they are planning so its valuable resources are not diverted unnecessarily.
The spokesman said: “If they would have let us know they were burning there, then we wouldn’t have attended. We ask people to ring in before any controlled burn.”
Sheila Hunn sent in this picture of the fire.
