A NEWLY-decorated cross covered in extracts from the bible has been erected outside a Weymouth Church.
Parishioner Ron Smith says he had a vision where God told him to install a life-sized white cross at The Prayerhouse.
So it was taken away in the van of Michael Greenaway and stored in the garage of artist Catherine Owen.
Catherine said: “Ron said he would trust us to listen to the Holy Spirit in repairing the cross.
“I worked to collage the cross with an old copy of the Good News Bible over a period of three months. It's still white as in Ron's original vision, but also covered in the word along with interesting line drawings.
“I put the Old Testament on the back and then turned it over to put the gospel onthe front starting with John at the bottom. As I worked my way up I got to an image of the crucifixion and it just happened to fall right beneath the cross part.”
The cross was given three coats of varnish and gold lettering was put onto it. The building where The Prayerhouse is based was not formerly a church and parishioners felt a cross was needed on the site.
Catherine added: “People were quite shocked to see it put back up and we’ve even had a wedding beneath it.”
