IT’S back to school for Weymouth youngster Max Price after months spent recovering from his second kidney transplant.

His mum Michelle told the Echo that the six-year-old is loving being back with his friends at Beechcroft St Paul’s CE VA Primary School.

Little Max has been forced to miss a lot of school time during his life because he was born with chronic renal failure and used to make three trips a week to Southampton for dialysis treatment.

His father Shaun made a huge sacrifice for his son by donating one of his kidneys.

It was the youngster’s second kidney transplant after his first donor organ failed and had to be removed.

Both Max and Shaun went into the operating theatre in October last year.

Little Max’s situation is far from straightforward because it is a non-compatible donation but his mum says everything was a ‘success’.

Michelle said: “Max was a little bit anxious and nervous before his first day back but he loved it.

“I am one very proud mummy after taking Max into school for the first time in seven months and knowing how worried and anxious he was about it.

“My brave little boy overcame his fears and really enjoyed himself.

“It was so good to see him with his friends.

“He’s come so far in the past month – eating, drinking, great kidney function, and now school.”

Little Max even got the ‘Star of the Week’ award.

The strain on Max Price’s family has been made easier over the years thanks to Dorset Echo readers and the Weymouth community.

Many fundraising events have been successfully held to raise funds to help parents Michelle and Shaun with their travel costs to get Max to Southampton General Hospital three times a week, where he had to go for dialysis treatment before his transplant.

His mum Michelle said the family was ‘overwhelmed’ with all the support they have received.

She added: “The transplant has gone really well we are so pleased.”
