THE developer behind a proposed wind farm project near Dorchester has been holding a series of public exhibitions on its latest plans.

Broadview Energy Ltd has revised its plans for land at Slyer’s Lane, near Charminster, to include six wind turbines, rather than seven, and reduce the tip height of them to 115m.

It has now held exhibitions in Charminster, Piddletrenthide, Poundbury and Dorchester to give residents the chance to see the latest proposals and speak to members of the Broadview team.

Development manager at Broadview Tom Cosgrove, right, said: “Holding these exhibitions has been a very useful process for us and I think local residents found it informative.

“If the project goes ahead we expect it to generate enough renewable electricity to power over 8,300 average homes.

“The 2011 census recorded 8,996 homes in Dorchester and therefore we expect the six turbines to generate the equivalent to a very significant proportion of domestic electricity consumption in the county town.

“As well as a community fund, we are proposing to offer the local community the opportunity to invest in the project if it goes ahead, which will enable local people to not only reduce carbon emissions and increase their energy security, but also share in the revenue from a local energy project.”

A community benefit and ownership workshop was held at Herrison Hall in Charlton Down on Monday evening.

Further events planned by Broadview include a television reception workshop at the same venue on Monday, July 7, from 5.30pm to 7pm.

A community liaison group meeting is being held from 7pm to 9pm on July 15 at Kingston Maurward and two events at Charminster Village Hall will see a planning process workshop on the evening of July 25 and a community liaison group meeting on August 19.
