• Anna Watson tells me that the Odyssey Majorettes, who train at Preston Village Hall on Saturday mornings, have just celebrated their first birthday, so congratulations to them. Over the past year they have taken part in Weymouth events and the Dorchester Carnival, and would like to thank all members and families for their constant support, plus the Lions club for the new music system and Bob's Cars in Dorchester for the carnival vehicle. Anna says it's been a wonderful 12 months and all the Majorettes are looking forward to the coming year. New members - girls and boys aged 3 to 16 - are always welcome. Contact Anna at odysseymajorettes.weebly.com for more details.

• Manager Yvonne Connolly organised a strawberry tea party at Bosworth Care Home which raised £72 for breast cancer charities. Pink was the predominant colour with pink balloons, pink tablecloths as residents, families, friends and staff, many dressed in pink, tucked into tea and cakes, and enjoyed the beautiful singing of Lauren Bannon. An afternoon enjoyed by all and for a very worthy cause.

• Terry Marsden, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee, in his annual report comments that that Hall continues to provide a service to the local community, and beyond, with regular bookings, weddings, dances and parties. Annual income meets general expenses, and the investment funds, arising from the generosity of Stan Bailey, Treasurer for many years, are available if major works are needed. A Barn Dance and an Autumn Fayre were held to add to these funds, and thanks are due to the organisers. Eight large round tables have been purchased and a granite 'Planter' in the foyer in memory of Roxane Moss who contributed so much to the local Community. Terry is grateful to those who care for the flowers in the planter and especially for the support from the Committee, in particular Treasurer Lynn Goodchild who works hard to keep the books balanced. Terry is also due a vote of thanks for all his hard work over 20 years as Chairman, and he now feels it is time for him to hand over the reins to a community spirited individual. If anyone feels that they could help, they would be welcomed with open arms and eased into the role over a period of time.
