A DORCHESTER volunteer centre has received a £750 donation towards its new community credit scheme.

Magna Housing Association donated the money to the Volunteer Centre for the new scheme, which provides supported volunteering for people with learning disabilities, enabling them to volunteer their time and skills with a mentor.

In exchange, the volunteer receives credits that can be exchanged for social activities such as sports, museums and the cinema.

The £750 comes from Magna’s community initiative fund, which allocates around £120,000 a year to initiatives which will improve the areas where residents live and a further £30,000 is donated to charities and organisations that provide services that benefit residents.

Siobhan Davis said: “We spent the donation on leaflets for the new initiative, including booklets in picture format. This money has been a great asset to the project as printing can be very expensive.”
