COASTGUARDS were called to assist a kitesurfer who got in to difficulties in Portland harbour.

A 999 call was made at around 2.30pm on Friday afternoon and rescue officers as well as the Portland Marina Rib responded, but the kayaker was able to make his way to shore unassisted.

Later, a windsurfer was rescued after getting in to difficulties off Studland.

Coastguards were alerted at around 6.30pm last night that the woman was unable to get back on her board or raise the sail and was drifting out to sea.

Swanage RNLI attended and took the windsurfer back to the beach.

And Coastguards are appealing for the owner of an abandoned kayak to get in touch.

The burgundy kayak sparked concern last night when it was found in Poole Harbour.

Investigations found there to be no missing persons and it is believed the kayak washed off a beach during high tide.
