COASTGUARDS rescued a dog which had fallen over the cliff at Charmouth in West Dorset.

West Bay and Lyme Regis coastguard rescue teams were alerted at around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.

Trigger the Springer Spaniel was pulled to safety using a rope and was not injured.

Earlier on Sunday, Portland coastguard were asked by German authorities to help locate a sailing yacht.

The vessel ‘Valeri’, a Hallberg Rassey 342 sailing yacht, is believed to have left Portland on June 15, bound for the west.

Elsewhere, coastguards and lifeboat crews helped a windsurfer off Peveril Ledge in Swanage to safety.

The vessel ‘Precious’ alerted Portland coastguard at around 1.30pm.

Swanage Coastwatch kept a lookout while a jet ski stood by and Swanage Inshore Lifeboat took the windsurfer back inshore.

Earlier yesterday, rescue teams were alerted to a drifting vessel close to Portland Castle.

Portland Bill coastguards secured the vessel and ensured that nobody was in danger.

Elsewhere, the Portland Coastguard rescue helicopter was scrambled to help three people onboard a fishing vessel in Devon.

The vessel ‘Hannah Beth’ broadcast for help when the boat started taking on water off Beer.

Lifeboat crews launched and the ingress of water was stopped and the vessel pumped out.

The incident happened at around 11.20am.

Later yesterday afternoon, the rescue helicopter was tasked to Devon again to evacuate a climber in difficulty in Chudleigh.

The casualty was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth at around 3.30pm.

Coastguards were alerted to a motor boat with engine failure just outside Poole Harbour at just after 1pm.

A passing vessel took them under tow into Poole harbour.

Earlier on Sunday, Portland coastguard asked a passing vessel to investigate a floating object.

The object was identified as a tree and a hazard to navigation.

A safety broadcast was made.
