A TEENAGE girl is fighting for her life after a road accident in north Dorset late last night.

The 16-year-old from Shaftesbury suffered serious head injuries when a silver Volkswagen Polo crashed on the A30 Sherborne Causeway at 11.20pm.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Blandford, was also injured and both were taken to Yeovil Hospital.

Two crews from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to attend the scene.

On arrival they found one person outside of the vehicle and another medically trapped.

Crews treated the casualty outside the vehicle until the arrival of ambulance personnel.

They used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle and extricate the casualty and made the vehicle safe.

The road was closed for several hours to allow police to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to the incident to call the Western Traffic Department on 101, quoting incident number 444:30.
