A COMMUNITY fun day is set to ramp up the numbers of girls and women heading to the skate park.

Sadie Osborne and Rosie Flaherty of Skate Girls Productions, have been involved in the organisation of a special event at the Front Skate Park on Saturday, July 12.

It is taking place between noon and 6pm and is open to everyone of all abilities.

Sadie said: “This event will help to raise confidence in people and give girls a chance to have a go.

“You see a lot of guys on the ramps and it can be a little scary. It’s not that they are sexist towards the girls, it is that the girls can lack confidence.”

The event will also feature, live music, a barbecue, tie dying and crafts.

The line-up will include local musician Lauren Bannon, DJ Amy B and Bridport artist Jack Harrison.

Sadie added: “Boys are still welcome to the event, we don’t want to be biased, we welcome their support for getting the girls into skating.

“We hope they come and enjoy the events with us. A guys show will run between 5pm and 6pm.”

Pro-guests are also set to attend including Lucy Adams who is one of the top female skaters in the UK.

Spectators can attend the fun day for free and for those wanting to ride the ramps it will cost £5 for the whole day. Boards will be available to hire at the Park.

All proceeds will go towards the skate park charity.

Guests can make the most of tips and advice from experienced skates.

An after party is set to take place following the event at The Lazy Lizard between 9pm and 1am.

The activity park opened in 2001 as a result of a three-year campaign by parents and young people.
