LAND Registry staff are waiting to hear whether they have claimed a famous victory over sell-off plans.
Unions say they are waiting for official confirmation of the U-turn following reports that the government is to scrap privatisation plans.
A total of 230 people are employed at the Land Registry on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth.
A consultation on the future of the service closed on March 20 and options for the future include: moving it from the civil service to a ‘government-owned company’, into a joint venture with a private company or to maintain it in public ownership.
A spokesman for the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills said the article was speculation and no decision had been made yet.
He said: “We have carried out a public consultation on the introduction of a Land Registry service delivery company, which looked at a range of options – including the status quo. We will publish the Government response shortly.”
Chairman of the PCS branch at WLR Andy Woodgate said they would not be claiming victory until they had heard the official response from the Government to the consultation.
