• Well, the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre pulled it off again. Good weather, good entertainment, good crowds and a great atmosphere. How do they do it? Guy Bridges and his dedicated band of helpers are to be congratulated on another marvellous success. There was something to see and do for the youngest up to the those a little older, like me. To name but a few, it was nice to see Paul Caddy cooking a meaty burger, Mike Haine at the Scout 'stick a dart in a packet to win' stall, Caroline Crisp looking fetching in her Far from the Madding Crowd dress, Guy himself with microphone in hand and so many more, most in period costume, helping out through the day. I didn't spend too long in the Shabby Chic, because Pat Bellis tried to sell me twice, and I found that I could remember most of the 'classic' cars from when they were first produced! The stages behind the Springhead and Wessex Waterworks - full marks to both for their support of the event - were a constant source of lively entertainment. I particularly enjoyed the Ukulele band and the Pantomime Group, one of whose numbers was the Birdie Dance, which again I remember from its first time around. And that's not to mention cream teas, sandwiches in the Mission Hall, Pimms on the lawn, children's games and a magician - how did he do that? - and so much more. A complete day out for the entire family in one of the most beautiful settings in Dorset, and many charities benefit as a result.

• Chairman Anthea Heathershaw invites everyone to the AGM of the Mission Hall Trust to be held on Wednesday 9 July starting at 7.30. I'll leave you to guess where it is being held! This is your chance to find out how the Trust has done over the past year and to see what they have planned for the future. Do make an effort to attend.

• Sue Wintle, who lives just a skip and a jump from the Mission Hall, tells me that the Sutton Poyntz Society Cream Teas afternoon will take place on Saturday 19 July between 2.30 and 4 pm in the Mission Hall Garden, or the Hall itself if, heaven forbid, the weather is unkind. At only £3 a head it is excellent value, so I'll see you there?
