TEAMS are being urged to sign up to a charity barrel challenge in Weymouth.

Organisers of the Weymouth Barrel Challenge are looking for teams of three or four people from any business or organisation to take part.

It is taking place this year on August 30 in a bid to raise sponsorship for two worthwhile charities, the Weymouth RNLI and the MV Freedom, a vessel designed to take disabled people to sea.

One of the organisers, Colin House, said: “We need your support. Please come down and support the charities – the road will be closed throughout the day with various stalls and events being staged for grown-ups and children.”

The challenge involves transporting a barrel on foot around a nine-mile course in the Weymouth area and to make it even more fun this year’s event has a treasure hunt theme.

The second stage is a fancy dress procession along Trinity Road followed by a barrel roll race along the quayside.

A disabled route will also be included.

Prior to the event the teams will be collecting sponsorship to be split between the two charities.

There will also be collection tins for any donations.

Colin added: “We are also looking for bands or solo artists to donate their time to gig with us, stallholders for spaces along the quayside for non-food stalls and other volunteers.”
