Jobs secure as Weymouth's biggest electronics firm sold
4:00pm Saturday 5th July 2014 in News
THE sale of one of Weymouth’s biggest employers is now complete with all jobs secure.
Electronics firm DEK, which employs more than 300 people on the Granby Industrial Estate, was sold a year after being put on the market.
Global equipment supplier ASM Pacific Technology (ASMPT), successfully completed its acquisition of DEK this week from its previous owner, Dover Corporation.
All of the printer specialist’s production, sales locations, management and staff have been acquired in their entirety.
This is ASMPT’s second significant acquisition in the electronics assembly industry, after having acquired the SIPLACE placement machine business in 2011.
The company, which employs 14,400 people, had historically been well-known as the world’s leading supplier of back-end systems in the semiconductor and LED market.
With the acquisition of DEK and SIPLACE, ASMPT has quickly expanded its name recognition and market position – as well as its development, production and distribution capacities – in Europe, North America and South America.
