THERE’S still time to sign up for this year’s Midnight Walk.

More than 850 ladies have already signed up to take on the five, 6.5 or 10 mile route along Weymouth’s seafront on Saturday, July 19.

Sponsorship will be raised to ensure that Weldmar Hospice-care can continue to provide its care free of charge to patients across south, west and north Dorset.

Many of the ladies have signed up as teams.

Matt Smith, events and challenges fundraiser for Weldmar, said: “We really do appreciate the support of the wonderful ladies who are taking part in our biggest fundraiser of the year.

“Last year they helped to raise £100,000 for Weldmar.

“2014 is our anniversary year – where we are celebrating 30 years of our community palliative care and 20 years of Joseph Weld Hospice.

“It would be amazing to smash through £100,000 in our anniversary year.”

One of the teams registered is from The Front Skatepark, in Weymouth.

Team leader Lisa Kille said: “I last took part in the Midnight Walk five years ago, and it was a fabulous night.

“As the walk takes place right in front of the skatepark, I thought it fitting that we entered a team of The Front’s volunteers, mums and girlfriends.

“Many of our team have had family members who have experienced the care given by Weldmar, and are grateful for having the opportunity to give something back.”

The final day for registering for the Weldmar Midnight Walk is Wednesday and ladies can register online at weld-hospice.org.uk/midnightwalk or by calling 01305 261800.

Volunteers are also needed during the evening, especially anyone who would like to keep the ladies on the right track by marshalling along the route.
