AN ALARM was raised by a member of the public who spotted a bag and trainers left near the water’s edge at Ringstead yesterday evening.

Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Officers were contacted and, after a thorough investigation, the items were recovered by its owners.

Earlier yesterday afternoon Portland Coastguard received a radio broadcast from a speedboat with two people on board that had run out of fuel in Portland Harbour.

Two local vessels responded and assisted the speedboat back to Castletown, where Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Officers offered safety advice.

Another radio broadcast from the skipper of a motor boat off Dancing Ledge requested assistance after reporting he was unable to raise his anchor.

The skipper eventually decided to cut the cable and made passage to Studland Bay to pick up a mooring.

Shortly afterwards a jet ski with two people on board reported taking on water off Old Harry Rocks.

The Swanage RNLI Lifeboat was launched and located them aground on the rocks.

The lifeboat then towed the jet ski back to Poole.

Later in the afternoon a yacht in Weymouth Harbour requested assistance when its engines failed.

A local vessel was on hand to safely tow the yacht back to its pontoon.
