OLDER drivers have the chance to brush up their driving skills. Dorset County Council is offering drivers aged 70 and over a chance to take join a discussion about driving. There is also an optional session for an observed practical refresher drive in the participant’s car at a later date.

The two-hour long theory session, presented by a road safety professional, does not involve any driving and covers subjects including better observation, avoiding distractions and allowing greater safety margins.

The 90-minute, one-to-one practical driving session is on local roads and will include town and country driving and aims to improve defensive driving techniques, hazard awareness and better road positioning.

Cabinet member for environment and economy, Cllr Peter Finney said: “We could all do with a refresher from time-to-time, however long we've been driving.”
