COMMERCIAL Road in Weymouth has now been reopened after a woman suffered a serious injury when a car hit a post.

Bus services on routes 3 and 8, which were also diverted earlier today, are now running normally.

Commercial Road was closed earlier today between Westham Road and Lower St Alban Street.

An ambulance service spokesman said a car hit a post along Commercial Road.

One woman suffered serious injuries and has a 'pretty significant' cut to her leg and a head injury.

There were five police cars and one police van at the scene.

The Air Ambulance airlifted the casualty to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital.

Police Constable Gareth Blaken, of Dorset Police's traffic unit, said: “The circumstances of the collision are not clear at this time but a 67-year-old woman from the Weymouth area has suffered serious, life-threatening injuries as a result of her car losing control.

“Any witnesses to the collision should contact us as soon as possible.”
