Olympian Nick Dempsey has lent a hand in opening a new veterinary practice in Weymouth.

The windsurfing world champion cut the ribbon at the newly opened Vets4Pets surgery, which resides within Weymouth’s Pets at Home store.

The practice is the second endeavour for veterinarian partners Anna Warren, 32, and Aimee Elsden, 29, who opened their first surgery in Dorchester in March.

Nick, who is friends with the two vets, said: “I was really happy to help out when I was asked to open the surgery. The two girls are really talented and hard working, so it was easy for me to say yes to help them out”

The silver medallist is currently working towards the campaign for Rio 2016. “I’m on the road a lot at the moment and doing a lot of training but I love coming back to Weymouth.”

The surgery has several brand new consultation rooms, an operating room and facilities to hold cats and dogs of all sizes.

Ms Warren said: “We are delighted to be able to offer the facilities we’ve got here to the people in Weymouth.

“We want to provide the best service possible to our clients.”

Nick joined Anna and Aimee in raising a glass to the new venture, along with the surgery’s two new nurses and receptionists and a few excited puppies.

Ms Elden said: “We’re all really excited about opening the new practice and we’re looking forward to meeting lots of new pets and clients.”

Cattle veterinarian, Matthew Burge, from Blandford, said “I’ve known Aimee and Anna for a long time and they’re the two best small animal vets I know. They’re extremely dedicated and passionate about what they do and I’m so pleased to see them opening another practice in the area.”

Also at the opening was Mayor Kate Wheller, she said: “It’s a terrific facility and it’s really state of the art.”

The surgery is offering a number of discounts and promotions to new customers as part of their launch.
