WORKERS with a head for heights are ensuring progress gathers pace at the Brewery Square development.

Construction work on phase 2b of the £100million town centre scheme has stepped up a gear with two giant new additions to the Dorchester skyline.

Many residents will have noticed the arrival of the two towering cranes which are being used as work on the frames of the buildings for the next stage of the scheme is carried out.

Contractors Galliford Try were awarded the £27million contract to carry out the works for the latest phase of the development earlier in the year.

The next element of the scheme, which is being referred to as Brewery Square Gardens and will comprise of five buildings, will see 132 new apartments and 15 new shops added to the development.

Andrew Wadsworth, director of Waterhouse which is developing the site in partnership with Resolution Property, said he was pleased to see work on the scheme moving full steam ahead.

He said: “We are delighted to see the cranes going up and to see such good progress being made on the next phase. We are looking forward to seeing the steel frames of the buildings as well.”

All 66 apartments in the previous phase of the scheme have already been sold and 25 per cent of those in the next phase have already been snapped up off-plan.

Brewery Square has already welcomed a host of restaurants and shops as well as a cinema, hotel and town square, creating dozens of jobs in the process.

Mr Wadsworth said that the build schedule was very much on track.

It is hoped that the first handovers of shops and residential units in the Brewery Square Gardens phase would take place next summer, with the whole phase to be completed in February 2016.

He added that the plan was to roll on with the next phase of the development as soon as the current stage is completed to keep up the momentum.

Mr Wadsworth said: “We are working on that now.”

100 million to revamp brewers square. But they can't scrape together 10% of that for the number 1 berth.
