A MAN has died after collapsing whilst walking his dog in Weymouth.

The man, who police say was in his 50s, was walking his dog on the South West Coast Path at the bottom of Camp Road, Wyke Regis on Tuesday evening (July 15) when he collapsed.

Members of the public called the ambulance service at about 8pm to report the injured man, who sustained serious head injuries.

Portland Coastguard and Dorset Police attended the scene.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man at the scene and he was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital by the coastguard helicopter.

The man later died of his injuries in hospital.

Police say the death is unexplained but they are not treating it as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed and a full investigation will be held to determine the man’s cause of death.

Residents have spoken of their shock at the incident.

Nicky Hartley, manager at Pebble Bank Holiday Park on Camp Road, said: “We did have some police come up here on Tuesday evening, the paramedics sent them. “We’d like to pass on our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the man. It’s very sad.”

West Dorset District Councillor for the ward Jean Dunseith said: “I’m very sorry to hear about this man’s death. It’s obviously a tragedy for the gentleman’s family and friends and my thoughts are with them at this sad time. I would like to pass on my condolences.”

The manager of Value House Stores near Camp Road, Lee Mitchell, said: “The area is very popular with dog walkers and it’s always very sad when something like this happens. We would like to pass on our condolences to the family.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said if anyone was in the area on Tuesday evening that may have seen this man walking his dog, they should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 15:490.
