A nursery school has improved to a good standard say inspectors.

Wonderland Day Nursery has been upgraded from satisfactory to good by Ofsted inspectors following a report in June.

The report found that staff provide a welcome and stimulating environment and promote children’s language services well, children feel settled and keen to be involved in activities, there is a good range of play equipment and resources, staff know the children well, use a clear assessment system, help prepare children well for new situations and have effective partnerships with parents.

However it highlighted a number of areas the school can improve on to achieve the highest Ofsted rating of outstanding.

The report said: “To further improve the quality of early years provision the school should maximise opportunities to further support children’s language skills by always using the correct version of words.

“The school should also review the storage arrangements for books for the younger children to enable them to select more easily.”

Wonderland Day Nursery registered in 1992, is privately owned and operates from a converted school building.

There are currently a team of 11 staff who care for 110 children on which 91 are in the early years age group.

The Ofsted report also recognised that staff have worked hard to make improvements since the last inspection in 2009, and have successfully addressed the recommendations that were set.

Wonderland Day Nursery owner Jill McClimonds said: “All the Wonderland team are ecstatic to have been rated good in our recent inspection, and we would like to thank all the staff for all their hard work, especially manager Lorraine.

“Staff are looking forward to continuing to provide good quality childcare for all the children who attend Wonderland.”

Nursery manager Lorraine Thom added that the school’s aim is to provide the best quality care, learning and development for children to give them the best possible start in life.

The school was rated good in overall effectiveness and in all other areas – meeting the needs of children, contribution, effectiveness of leadership and management of the early years provision.
