Lightning flashed across the Dorset skies last night as a storm rolled in.

Rain showers were followed by lightning rending the skies last night after the earlier humid weather.

Last night was the most spectacular lightning display I have ever seen in my 40 years. Stunning, stunning lightning strikes literally every second - I've honestly never seen anything like it. I watched it come in off the sea and then moved to near Hengistbury Head as it moved inland.
I hope some more photos come in - it was truly breathtaking!

Did Weymouth miss this? I had a restless night and wasn't aware of anything.

I only heard one rumble of thunder on Portland so didn't bother looking outside. Did I miss something?

If you want to see where lightning is happening in real time around the UK then have a look at goo.gl/HPdMoS which is using data gathered from radio receivers.
