A GROUP of walkers retracing the steps of the Tolpuddle Martyrs are passing through Dorset today as they near the end of their epic mission.

The team, led by Jonathan Gordon-Farleigh, are walking 119 miles from Plymouth to Tolpuddle and plan to arrive for the start of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival this evening.

They are retracing the steps of the Martyrs when they returned home from Australia after being pardoned.

The walkers have been stopping along the way to help on farms as well as assisting with various community projects.

One of their stops today will be a carved mile marker at the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester, which marks the distance the walkers have travelled from Plymouth – 119 miles – and the distance they have to walk to Tolpuddle – 8.5miles.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival will see music, speakers and other entertainment for all ages across the weekend with the main procession on Sunday afternoon.
