THE sun may not be shining all day but there’s lots to do in south and west Dorset this weekend – but don’t forget your raincoat just in case.

The odd shower is expected this afternoon but it will remain warm.

The Jurassic Rocks music festival is now underway at the Grove playing fields on Portland and runs until 11pm.

The Wurzels are headlining the event, which features three different stages.

Also performing are the Skimmity Hitchers, Guns of Navarone and Devil’s Rejects.

Adult tickets are £20 but there’s an evening only ticket for £15.

Tributes to festival stalwart Tony Benn, who passed away earlier this year, are expected from MPs Dawn Primarolo and Kerry McCarthy, and from his granddaughter Emily Benn.

There’s something for everyone at this weekend’s Ecover Blue Mile on Weymouth Beach, with open water swims, water sport races and taster sessions, an Olympic gold medallist, and Octonauts activities for fans of the hit CBeebies show.

The event kicks off the Dorset Festival of Sport and is on today and tomorrow.

Star of the show is one of GB’s 2012 heroes, Tim Baillie, who will be at the event throughout the weekend. Tim will be on the beach signing autographs and chatting – and he’ll be taking part in the stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and kayak racing.

Lyme Lifeboat Week kicks off today and runs until Saturday, July 26.

On Thursday, the Red Arrows will arrive in the town at about 6pm.

Friday’s programme includes the grand duck race and ends with a fireworks display.

The 48-page Lifeboat Week programme, with full information and timings of all events is now available at the lifeboat shop at the harbour and throughout Lyme Regis and Charmouth.

Meanwhile, you can decide which is the scariest scarecrow at Piddlehinton Church Fete tomorrow.

It is held in the grounds of The Old Rectory, Piddlehinton, from 2pm and there will be a hog roast and BBQ from 7pm.

For the children there will be a bouncy castle, ice creams, |children’s races, pony rides. Also there will be a dog show and a scarecrow competition, both to be judged and rosettes awarded.

Admission is £1 for adults and children under 16 go free.

Wykefest continues today and tomorrow at the Wyke Smugglers pub in Weymouth. There is free entry and there will be a range of different ales and ciders to try.
