THANKS to Rob White for sharing these photographs with the Looking Back pages.

They are of his great uncle Herbert Charles Downton, who was killed in the First World War.

Rob, of Lanehouse, Weymouth, also requested these photos of the grave of Herbert from the War Graves Photographic Project, who he thinks could have been his great uncle. Private Downton was killed in the same conflict as war poet Wilfred Owen.

Ironically, this was the last action of the war the First Battalion Dorset Regiment was involved in a week before the war ended.

If anyone has any more information on Herbert Downton, especially a photo, get in touch with Looking Back on 01305 830973 or email joanna.davis@dorsetecho.co.uk
