POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Weymouth.

The incident happened at approximately 6.20pm on Thursday, July 17 in the Westham area, in the alleyway which leads from the Marsh playing fields to Southview Road.

A 19-year-old local man was walking through the alleyway when he was confronted by a man who attempted to steal his mobile phone.

The victim was pushed off his bike and punched in the face before managing to escape his attacker and ran off in the direction of Abbotsbury Road.

The victim has yet to speak to police and Dorset Police are urging him to come forward.

The offender is described as a white man, approximately 5 foot 11 inches tall, about 19-years-old and of slim build.

He has brown hair and a tufty beard. He was wearing a grey beanie hat, grey jogging bottoms, a grey and white hooded top and was carrying a black mini bag across his chest.

Police Constable Andy Dickinson, of Weymouth police, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information about the offender.

“It is believed that the same suspect committed another assault on the Marsh playing fields just prior to this attack.

"Enquiries have revealed that a man was pushed off his bicycle and punched in the face. This victim has not reported this crime – I urge him to come forward.

“Any witnesses to either incident are asked to contact Dorset police on 101 as soon as possible.”
