FANS of Broadchurch will soon be able to read all about it after the smash hit crime drama was adapted into a novel.

Written by Erin Kelly in collaboration with the show’s Bridport-based writer Chris Chibnall, Broadchurch the novel will hit the shelves on August 14 and contains never-before-seen material.

Filming for the second series of the West Dorset show is now currently underway in West Bay and Clevedon in North Somerset, and the launch of the novel comes as excitement for the second series grows.

Ms Kelly said: “There was pressure because I know Broadchurch was really taken to the public’s hearts.

“I know people might read it in a different way but I wasn’t daunted by that, the television show was beautifully written, and the iconic cliffs in West Bay were like a character itself.

“In that way, the book is very descriptive and I know Dorset well so I drew on that as well to give the book some real local character.”

The story is told through the eyes of the three main characters, DI Alec Hardy, DS Ellie Miller and Beth Latimer, played by David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker in the show.

Speaking at the launch of the book, Mr Chibnall said: “The day after Broadchurch finished, a woman stopped me on West Bay beach and asked me “When’s the book coming out?”

“I’ve loved Erin’s work for a long time now, her writing is beautiful, emotive and suffused with tension.

“From the moment I first read her gorgeous insights into a world and characters I thought I knew well, I was hooked and desperate to read more.”

A social media campaign has also been launched, inviting people to air their thoughts after they read the book, by using the #broadchurchnovel on Twitter.
